For our last day in Belgium, we jumped on a tram, and headed out through the northern suburbs to Heysel, where the Expo centre, Atomium, The Waterpark, and MiniEurope is located. MiniEurope is kind of like Cockington Green in Canberra – everything is 1:25 scale, so it’s still kinda big in some situations.
It was really interesting even just being on what was essentially a commuter tram, going out through the suburbs and getting more of an idea on what living in Brussels would be like, as opposed to living in the city centre. Seems very similar to most other urbanised cities. Just like a western suburb really.
MiniEurope, at €13.10 each, was approximately 2 hours of wandering through a landscaped area, checking out miniature versions of major landmarks in Europe, including Big Ben, The Eiffel Tower, and the Berlin wall. We got to see lots of miniatures of places we aren’t going to go, and some preludes to places we are. The Bruparck! area is actually kinda cool, and would definitely be a good place to bring families. I would recommend it if you have the time and inclination.
Unfortunately, that more or less ends our stay in Brussels, as we’re currently on a train to Amsterdam, relaxing in leather seats in a first class compartment, giggling as all the cattle-classes get ejected into their rightful domain.
