Border crossing, with Stamps !

Ok, so it’s Romania not Transylvania, but still. We’ve been on plenty of trains, and crossed multiple borders already, however not only is this our first very long trip (11 hours) but it’s also our first border crossing.

At a place just on the edge of Hungary, a fellow came through and stamped our passports for exit. They must have done the whole train, because eventually we moved on, for about 5 minutes, then we stopped again. A new lot of Romanian frontier police got on, and gave us new inbound stamps. This is kind of exciting, as in this day and age, it’s rare and/or unusual to have many stamps from different countries. They are pretty boring stamps, but it’s still a new experience.

Riding on a Romanian train is also a new experience. We’re still in “first class’ but it’s a much poorer first class than other trains we’ve been on. It’s not so much old, just doesn’t have some of the comforts that our most recent RailJet had.

The country we’re passing through is also nothing particularly spectacular. There’s been some cute bits here and there, but mostly it seems very flat, with just foothills in the distance. It’s been 6 hours so far, and we’re not really into the hilly country yet. I’m really hoping it will be all dark and creepy and Transylvanian like, but who knows. The trees and forests we have seen, aren’t all that special yet.
