Budapest was supposed to be a washing day, after Vienna failed to really have any reachable Laundromats. We found recent updates about two particular places in Pest, and on our first day, went for the 8 minute walk to find the first one, which seems to have only very very recently closed, in fact even the Telegraph was reporting, on a page last updated “8th August, 2010” that Irisz Szalon was still open. Guess they are idiots, although to be fair, I don’t expect much better from them. Either way, our washing had to then be put off till Monday, when the Liliom TextilSalon was open again.
So on Monday, we dragged our ginormous bag of laundry on a 20 minute walk to Liliom u, which was advertised as a self-service laundry. It had a total of 2 washers, and 2 dryers, all in heavy use.
Apparently, It’s NOT a self-service laundry. However, that’s ok, as we were told to come back at 2:00pm, and our laundry would be done – all for the princely price of around 10EUR. Sure, it’s more expensive than some places, but it gave us more time to do touristy things, like walk up to the Citadel.
Moral to the story, if you’re looking for a Laundromat, laundrette, waschsalon or self-service laundry in Budapest, you may be out of luck if you try for Irisz, which everyone was previously saying is the major one. Of course, in a hostel, you may not have the same problems.
