Moulin Rouge

It's one of "those" tourist attractions. You know, the place everyone knows about, and goes to see. We'd read heaps of reviews, some good, some bad, some idiotic (I mean really, complaining that it's not a place to take kids, surely you know that before?)

We reviewed a number of options, including the menus, and decided we'd be better getting dinner elsewhere and just seeing the 9pm show. And was it worth it ?

I think that's the sound of a yes resounding off the walls. It's a cancan show, so a couple of the women are wearing next to nothing. But you pretty soon forget about that and don't notice it.

I think it would be fair to say my mouth was only closed when I swallowed champagne occasionally. Not only where the dance acts fantastic and (i think) telling a story, but there was also intermittent sections where they keep you amused while they change sets and things.

First up was the juggler, who juggled 7 batons at once to very fast paced (200bpm+) music. Then the next one was a ventriloquist, who not only used puppets and stuff, but also ventriloquised members of the audience.

Then a little dog came onto the stage and wanders over to the ventriloquist. Coming after the 7 or 8 tiny ponies, you fairly and reasonably thought this was a real dog. Till he started talking.

One of the crowning acheivements though, was the huge aquarium that came out of the floor, with 3 or 4 pythons swimming round in the water. Was pretty amazing just by itself, until one of the dancers got into the water, and ran her routine in the water, with the snakes, including wrapping them around themselves.

the whole experience was fantastic, and though probably overpriced, an excellent idea, and I would strongly strongly recommend anyone who visits Paris goes and sees the show. Ignore the cramped seating, and the attitudes of some of the staff and the price, and just focus on the show.

You simply forget about everything else anyway.
