Booking Trains...

Those aware of our plans (in so far as we have them) will be aware that in late May, we're flying BA to Rome, staying a night in Rome, then getting an overnight train from Rome to Venice, to board our cruise. (Choose the 7 day, Greek Isles cruise). Then we're staying a couple of nights in Venice, hiring a car, and driving around Northern Italy for 8 days, before flying back again in early June. This trip is both our honeymoon, and our 3 year anniversary, so we're pretty excited.

So, we're trying to book the overnight train, using Trenitalia, and they don't seem to like our credit or debit cards. This is a common issue with Trenitalia, and noone is quite sure why.

Sometimes they accept foreign cards, sometimes they don't. About 30% of Australian cards are accepted, and about 70% of UK cards are accepted.

We don't have enough on our UK cards as yet, so we tried the NAB Gold Visa Debit. This did not work. Once we get our new NAB Gold Visa, we'll try that, although I'm not hopeful. If that doesn't work, then we'll try with our Clydesdale master debit.

Failing that, I'm not sure what to do. We can probably buy through a UK agent equivalent of Trenitalia, but may not be able to get the early bird discounts. Same with the Australian agents.

Will provide more feedback when we know.....
